I Dream Stuff ("we," "us," "the app"), operated by Crane & Archer, LLC, is a dream journal built to help you know yourself — you catch a dream, and the app helps you see it and read it. Your dreams are about as personal as data gets, and we've built the app around that fact. This policy explains, in plain language, what we collect, where it goes, and what you can turn off.
Your written dreams are protected by zero-access encryption. Here is exactly what that does, mechanically:
Encryption covers your dream words and what the app writes back to you about them: the dream narrative; the places, people and objects you record; the reply you heard in the experiment; the short summary; and every reading. A few things stay readable on our server so the app can find resonances with other dreamers: the keywords and glyphs the app derives from a dream, and — worth stating plainly, because it is the most literal part — the exact spoken phrases you record ("anything anyone said"), which feed the matching directly. If you'd rather sit out the matching entirely, you can turn off community sharing in Settings, and then none of it — keywords, phrases, or your proof phrase — is compared against anyone.
Sharing is the one deliberate exception. When you choose to show a dream to your Dream Friends — its summary, its card, its film, your words, or particular readings — you are taking that piece out of the encrypted vault and handing it to the people you picked. That never happens on its own: it is always your choice, one piece at a time (see below).
Dream cards and Dream Films are pictures and video, not words, so they aren't encrypted the same way. Instead they live in private storage reachable only through short-lived, signed links — never a public address — and, like everything else, only ever leave your account when you choose to share them.
The app can't interpret or illustrate a dream without a machine reading it. So here is every trip your words take:
| What | Goes to | What's sent |
|---|---|---|
| Your dream readings and summaries | Anthropic (Claude) | The dream text only. Not your name, email or handle. |
| Meditations, bedtime & daytime stories, the Almanac | Anthropic (Claude) | Nothing personal — these are the same for everyone and carry none of your dream content. |
| Voice capture (if you speak a dream) | Groq (US-based; runs OpenAI's Whisper speech model) to turn the audio into text, then Anthropic (Claude) to sort that text into the capture fields | The audio, only to transcribe it — then the resulting text, only to split it into fields. Not your name, email or handle. The audio is never stored on our servers, and Groq is set to zero data retention — it keeps nothing once the text is returned. If a transcription can't finish (for example your connection drops), the recording is kept only on your own phone so you don't lose the dream, and it's deleted as soon as it's transcribed or you discard it (and automatically after 3 days if it's left unfinished). |
| Dream cards (the artwork) | Google (Gemini) | A scene description drawn from the dream. |
| Dream Films | Replicate and fal.ai (US-based video-AI platforms), which host and run ByteDance's Seedance model on their own infrastructure | Scene descriptions only — the words you wrote. No photo, no voice recording: the character is synthetic. |
Anthropic and Groq do not use your content to train their models. Anthropic retains it only briefly for safety purposes; Groq is set to zero data retention and keeps nothing after the task is done. We send dream content to these providers to perform the task you asked for — not to build profiles of you.
A Dream Film puts a character you describe in words into your dream — a synthetic, made-up person, not a real one. Because of that:
Every account's data is isolated at the database level, so one dreamer cannot reach another's dreams, profile or messages. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. Files like your dream cards and films are served through private, expiring links rather than public URLs. And your written dreams are encrypted with a key we never receive, as described above.
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from Settings, which permanently and irreversibly erases your dreams, profile, proof phrase, films and matches. You can also take everything with you first — Settings will make you a PDF of your journal or a plain-text backup. You may also email us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information.
Depending on where you live (for example, the EU/EEA under GDPR, or California under CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or port your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these, contact us at the address below and we'll respond.
Our providers are based primarily in the United States and process data there — including Anthropic (readings), Groq (voice transcription), and the US-based platforms (Replicate and fal.ai) that render Dream Films. Some providers may process data in other countries whose privacy laws differ from your own; where the law requires, we use appropriate safeguards for those transfers. By using the app, you understand your information may be processed in these places.
If we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
